Harry Minter is running the bath half-marathon and raising money for GUA Africa. The event is on 7th March, and to show Harry your support you can donate via his Just Giving page. Everyone at GUA wishes him well!

The African Serves Group at the Stonehill College in Eastern Massachusetts is currently organizing a showing of our founder’s documentary 'War Child' and generally raise awareness about GUA Africa on campus. The group plans to fundraise for our Emma Academy project at the film showing, including the selling of our GUA t-shirts. University campuses are a great place to spread GUA’s message and we hope to build a more widespread student support network in the future.

Sarah Ginder from New Jersey plans to use her talent to help raise money for GUA. Here is what she is doing in her own words: "Inspired by Emmanuel Jal, I have created a collection of pottery in support of GUA Africa. Next semester I will be graduating from Rowan University. As part of my senior show I will be selling this series of pottery to raise money for GUA Africa. The show will be held in the High St. Gallery of Glsassboro NJ from April 8th – 18th." You can see pictures of Sarah's latest pottery work on her flikr page www.flickr.com/photos/sarahginder/.

Penny Hartgerink from Kiama, Australia is a budding musician and has begun organising a concert with all proceeds going to GUA. The concert is planned to take place early next year, we will keep you updated with flyers and news as and when we get it.

  • Leer

    A big thank you to...

Students, faculty and staff at the Colorado Mountain College, who fundraised for GUA Africa in several different ways. They organised bake sales, silent auctions, a film showing of our founder's documentary 'War Child', and encouraged individual donations at all the events. Collectively they raised just over $1,000 – which is a fantastic effort, and we thank everyone at the Colorado Mountain College for their great efforts.

  • Kickstart Arts

    A big thank you to...

Kickstart Arts Inc. and in particular, Pip Stafford, for generously offering to raise funds and awareness for GUA Africa during their Power Hip Hop events throughout December. The event saw eight young hip hop artists, some of them Sudanese refugees, team up with the Tasmanian Symphony Orchestra, to create a cross-cultural music experience. The concerts went down fantastically well, with the performers receiving a standing ovation on each and every night! GUA leaflets were distributed each night, and we received around $350 AUD through individual donations. The partnership between GUA Africa and Kickstart Arts Inc. will continue to grow in 2010, as Pip herself said, "Being involved with GUA Africa means so much to the Sudanese boys (at Kickstart)...knowing that their music would help the people of Africa affected them deeply". GUA would like to take this opportunity to thank everyone involved in the Power Hip Hop project for their efforts, and wish them every success for 2010.

  • Survivors of War

    A big thank you to...

Beth McGregor, from Sydney Australia, who selflessly asked her family and friends to donate to GUA Africa for her 40th birthday. Beth raised a fantastic $530 (AUD), which she chose to be donated to the Survivors of War Support fund. The fund pays for the living expenses of a group of refugees from Sudan and Rwanda who are currently receiving their educations in Nairobi, Kenya. Individual donors pay for their tuition fees. • Survivors of War

    A big thank you to...

Rania, Danilson, and Wambui at the United Nations for their fantastic Dollar drive to support GUA Africa. The evening event, which was held at Tillmans in New York had DJs, a raffle, t-shirts for sale, and even special GUA Africa themed cocktails! Their vision was to encourage contributions from as many people as possible from within the United Nations organisation to demonstrate that a small donation can collectively make a big difference. The event was a huge success, with over 100 people attending and a whopping $4,271 raised on the night! The money raised will go toward the building of Leer town's very first public toilets (for more details please see the Emma Academy page).
