Sunday 21st September was the International Day of Peace. Several Gua Africa students organised a football tournament between Nuer and Dinka football teams based in Nairobi, Kenya.
The tournament had four teams taking part; Referendum FC, Leer Boys FC (both made of players from the Nuer community), 22 Brothers FC and Youngsters FC (both made up of players from the Dinka community). The final was played between Referendum FC and 22 Brothers FC with Referendum FC (seen in the above photo) coming out on top with a 3-1 win.
Gua Africa's Kenya Coordinator began the tournament with a brief speech about the need for peace and understanding across tribal lines. The players joined in calling for a united and peaceful South Sudan. We would like to take this opportunity to thank the Gua Africa Kenya Coordinator's family who generously provided the transport costs along with refreshments and food for the players. We would also like to commend the students who took it upon themselves to organise the tournament.
This football tournament was organised under the umbrella of Peace One Day's One Day One Goal campaign. For more information on the campaign please visit: http://www.peaceoneday.org/campaigns/one-day-one-goal.
