The Teacher Training group have all successfully completed their first term at the Marist International College in Nairobi with each student passing their end of term exams. This group are the first year of a programme which we hope to continue upon their successful graduation in three
years time.
The level of training will have been a marked step up in difficulty from what they experienced in their high schools. Every one of the five students spent at least one of their four years of High School education studying at the Kakuma refugee camp, with some spending all of it there.
The standard of education they would have received in the camp would have been very low, considering the challenging environment and financial restraints. However, they are all determined and intelligent students who are working hard to gain the qualifications they need to go back to South Sudan and teach the younger generations a greater quality of education than they received themselves.
