Gua's first fully qualified Engineer

Gua's first fully qualified Engineer

Back in April 2008, Damai Dak managed to scrape together the fare to Nairobi Kenya, having heard that Gua officials were there meeting potential students for our Survivors of War programme. He impressed us so much with his desire and commitment to study, that we returned to the UK determined to help him.

Some 3 years later Damai has successfully graduated from Ndejje University in Uganda with a 2:1 in Civil Engineering. It is a huge triumph and everyone at Gua Africa is very proud of Damai’s achievements. He has come a long way from the young boy who was forced to flee his village during the civil war, separated from his parents and struggling to look after his younger brother, both watching their friends die of starvation along the way.

Since his graduation Damai has become employed as our very own engineer on the Emma Academy Project, which will see him playing a key role in the construction of a Secondary School in his home town of Leer . As well as congratulating Damai, we'd like to thank his two sponsors in America, without whose support all of this would have been impossible.
