Sponsor a teacher

By sponsoring one student you could have a direct impact on the education of children in Leer, Southern Sudan for generations to come.

Through an exciting new partnership with the SDL Foundation, we are offering five specially selected students the opportunity to train as teachers at Secondary School level. The students all originate from the Leer area and have succeeded in graduating from High School with excellent grades despite having to flee their homeland during the civil war and enduring extreme hardship in Kenya or Uganda as child refugees. Each of them has a dogged determination to succeed but also to return to Southern Sudan to help improve the standard of education there.

SDL Foundation are covering the full cost of tuition fees, text books and accommodation at a specialist teacher training college in Nairobi, Kenya. However, each student needs an individual sponsor to fund their day to day living expenses including food, transport etc.. This will amount to £85.00 ($150) a month. Each sponsor will have the chance to communicate directly with their student, following their progress throughout the three year course. They can then share in the excitement as the newly qualified student travels to Leer in 2014 to take up employment in Gua Africa’s very own Emma Academy.

Our students are due to start their training in May 2011. So please act quickly to get involved in this life-changing programme – for more information contact ruth@gua-africa.org.
