"I was born on 1st May 1988 at small village known as Kuoi in Southern Sudan. Life was very sweet until in 1997 when the war began in our region and the Arab militia attacked our town. Because of the war many people vacated their homes and hide in the forest, this is when I got separated from my family.
Sadly I was captured by the Arab militia; I was only 9 years old. I found myself in a gloomy and a dark place, becoming a child soldier was not my wish but I was forced in to it. I thought they would only take me as hostage but that was not their intention. After only a week of training I was given an AK-47 and told to shoot my own people. I fought for 6 years until in 2003, when I was 15, I got shot badly in fighting and a Red Cross aeroplane took me to Lokichoggio in Northern Kenya to rehabilitate me. It took me two months to recover from my wounds.
I was then given a choice whether to go back to Southern Sudan or to go to the Kakuma refugee camp. I chose the refugee camp since I feared to go back and join the army again. Though life was tough in the camp, I felt it was far much better than living with Arabs as a soldier, I was also happy because I joined primary school in the same year. By the year 2008, I sat for Kenya certificate of primary Education and qualified to join high school. I managed to join high school for one year and then drop out since nobody was catering for my school fee."
